This year, our chief executive Melissa Davis and Law Society Gazette journalist Eduardo Reyes are raising funds for Reverse Rett and Skylarks who are independent charities which support their beautiful daughters. We wanted to do something different this year to wish you all well for the end of what has been a very difficult year for most and also to ask you to donate to these two small and amazing charities.
Amy is Eduardo’s daughter. She is 13 and she has Rett syndrome, which makes speech impossible, and deliberate movements and eating difficult or impossible.
Melissa’s daughter Jessica, 3, has autism, and although she is very physical, she is unable to communicate.
Melissa will match the donations received up to £2,000.
Charity video featuring comedians Sally Phillips and Ronni Ancona
We have a very special video campaign which includes a humorous sketch from actress and comedian Sally Phillips (Smack the Pony, Bridget Jones’s Diary, Veep and much more) alongside actress Ronni Ancona. Sally also describes how Skylarks has supported her and her son.
Victoria Macdonald, health and social affairs editor for Channel 4 News, takes a few minutes out from her busy schedule, where she was broadcasting at a regional hospital, to record a slot for us on why these charities are so important and asks for your kindness in supporting them.
There are a raft of faces from across the legal sector including Daniel Winterfeldt MBE QC (Hon), Sharon Blackman OBE, Sean Jones QC, Matt Byrne, Gerard McDermott, wishing you a happy festive break and asking you to support these two fabulous charities.
And here’s the outtakes!:

Silent Auction
We also have a silent auction which will run until Christmas eve where the highest bidder will win lunch (plus 1) at the Delaunay in London, with Eduardo Reyes, Commissioning Editor of the Gazette, and Matt Byrne, Deputy Editor of The Lawyer magazine.
They both promise to spill the beans on the sector secrets over the last 50 years between them. Gerard McDermott is kindly sponsoring the lunch and has started the silent action rolling with an initial bid. To place your bid please email: info@mdcomms.co.uk with your amount and then donate here. If you don’t believe us then watch the video from Matt Byrne:
The winner will be announced on Christmas Eve.
A date will be set for lunch in the first few months of 2022 (Government restrictions permitting).
Thank you so much for your time, encouragement and support.
