We are delighted that our Legal 5K race, which took place on Thursday 23 April, has been featured in the Law Society Gazette.
Our fun and friendly competition is featured in the wellbeing section of the Gazette, in an article by Eduardo Reyes.
Eduardo notes that the agency has built a notable wellbeing initiative in the legal sector by organising the annual Legal 5K in Regent’s Park to raise funds for Skylarks, a special needs children’s charity. The event has drawn hundreds of lawyers and legal staff for three years, fostering communal support beyond the workplace and encouraging team participation from firms.
The article also features Mark Evans, Law Society President, who is an advocate of the run both through his presidency and as the Founder of Legal Runner, a running group he created for the sector.
Communications Director Katy McEwen-Smith is quoted, highlighting the event’s strong sense of community – from pre-race excitement to cheering across the finish line – and stresses the charity element’s role in creating shared purpose and positivity across colleagues, clients and peers.
Katy says:
“Events like this are a reminder of just how connected and supportive the legal sector can be. Seeing colleagues, clients and peers come together with such energy, positivity and team spirit in Regent’s Park was fantastic.”
Both of the winners of the fastest Managing Partner competition are also quoted.
James Carroll, MP at Russell-Cooke, and fastest male MP, says:
“What stands out every time is seeing people from all levels, trainees, business services teams, associates and partners, coming together outside the pressures of day-to-day work… In a profession that can sometimes feel hierarchical and intense, events like this help break down barriers, build stronger relationships and create a real sense of community.”
Florence Brocklesby, MP at Bellevue Law and fastest female MP, says:
“How I run has evolved as my life and career has change. Taking in everything from running the Hong Kong marathon when I was on secondment there in my twenties, to quick lunch break runs along the Thames with colleagues in my City days and now the atmosphere of organised races. I always try to run when I’m travelling as it’s also a great way to get to know a new place, so I am looking forward to re-running a great route around Copenhagen during the IBA in October.”
The Legal 5K complements other sector-running efforts such as Legal Runner, and is praised for breaking down hierarchical barriers, strengthening relationships across roles, and promoting wellbeing. By combining social exercise with fundraising, Ed notes that MD Communications positions the Legal 5K as a flagship cultural event that reinforces team spirit and sector-wide support for mental health and charity causes.
Thank you to Eduardo for the brilliant write-up and also for his support at the event, where he was part of the medal distribution team.
